So, if AutoTune is fake enough to annoy many of us, what on earth do we make of Hatsune Miku?Īnd how long will it be before the technology in Vocaloid is used to actually replace some or all of a human singers performance, in the same way AutoTune is now used to modify one? After all, audiences are already used to human voices that have been altered to the point where they no longer sound much like humans - so why not go all the way, and completely eliminate the human?Īs one more example, here's Christina Aguilera, writhing around in a bed a la Faith Hill, sounding almost as robotic as Hatsune Miku (but singing an octave or so lower, so not sounding quite as much like a digital chipmunk). Take a look for yourself: Hatsune Miko concert.īased on a few different Youtube clips of Hatsune Miku that I found on YouTube, it appears her cup size has increased considerably over the years, and her costumes have become considerably less innocent during the same time span - the same progression well established by dozens of young female (human) performers in the last decade or so. Never mind that she looks like an oversexed infant from a comic book, and sounds like a synthetic chipmunk. This non-existent "performer", twirling and bobbing to the sound of an entirely non-existent singer, is drawing huge crowds in Japan, and has thousands of fans.

The image of the CGI "star" is projected vertically up from the stage floor onto an almost transparent screen angled forward at 45 degrees the audience stares at the image of their beloved star on the screen and goes wild with adoration for their "star". She - it - is known as Hatsune Miku, and is entirely digital, a computer-modelled CGI creation that is animated to perform the requisite sexy moves. It gets worse - guess how they got the "sex appeal of having a cute performer standing on stage with no real talent" that you referred to? They simply created an all-digital "sexy star".
AUTOTUNE EFFECT STACK SOFTWARE
This is done using Yamaha's Vocaloid software - you enter the melody and choose a synthetic voice, and out comes the "performance", no humans necessary. In Japan they already have cut out the middleperson, and created the song entirely digitally. Click to expand.Believe it or not, motwang, your nightmare has already come true.
